The NHSE seeks to actively promote software sharing and reuse within and across the HPCC agency programs on a sustainable basis. The NHSE facilitates the development of discipline-oriented software and document repositories and promotes contributions and use via the World Wide Web. Existing NHSE repositories include HPC-Netlib, PTlib, and CSIR. HPC-Netlib is the high performance branch of the Netlib mathematical software repository. PTlib is the Parallel Tools software repository and CSIR is Chemistry Software and Information Resources. Development of the NHSE is being carried out by the Center for Research on Parallel Computation (CRPC). The NHSE Technical Team has developed a software toolkit for setting up and maintaining a software repository. This toolkit, called Repository in a Box (RIB), enables organizations to develop and administrate their own software repositories. RIB is a standards-based software package that utilizes the Basic Interoperability Data Model (BIDM), which is an IEEE standard for software cataloging. Because RIB utilizes the BIDM, repositories created using the RIB software can interoperate with other NHSE repositories such as those listed above. |
