In this lesson we met the following new MPI functions:
MPI_Type_contiguous declares a new continguous MPI
type; discussed in section 8.4.1
MPI_Allgather gathers data from individual processes
and assembles it into an array; every process is given back the
result of the operation; discussed in section
8.4.2
MPI_Gather performs the same task as
MPI_Allgather, but only the root process is given
the result of the operation; discussed in section
8.4.3
MPI_Allgatherv gather chunks of data of different
length from individual processes and assembles them into an array
which is given back to all participating processes; discussed in
section 8.4.4
MPI_Barrier synchronises execution of the program
across the whole communicator; discussed in section
8.4.5
