Overview of Available Parallel Systems, by Aad J. van der Steen, December 1993
This report gives an overview of parallel and vector computers which are currently available or will become available within a short time from vendors. The overview concentrates on the computational capabilities of the systems, quoting best measured performance, if available, which is more realistic than the theoretical peak performance. Oxford Parallel
The Oxford Parallel unit of the Computing Laboratory (of Oxford University) has been set up to stimulate the profitable use of parallel processing within industry and commerce. Oxford Parallel carries out collaborative projects with companies to develop new applications or to re-design existing systems to get the most out of the new cost-effective parallel technology. Application specific parallel hardware may be developed to provide very high performance parallel processing. Oxford Parallel also provides advice on the choice of parallel hardware and software.

Applied Parallel Research: APR was formed at the end of 1991 by members of the team developing FORGE, the interactive CASE tool for Fortran browsing/parallelization, over the previous 3 or more years at Pacific-Sierra Research (based in Los Angeles). By January of 1992, APR had obtained the funding it needed to acquire the FORGE software and technology and most of the development team from PSR.
Computational Engineering International, Inc.: CEI, Inc. is the provider of EnSight - an advanced visualization tool for the postprocessing of results data from computational analysis. The MathWorks,Inc.: The MathWorks is the company that produces MATLAB, the popular scientific and engineering software tool. MATLAB is a technical computing environment for high-performance numeric computation and visualization. MATLAB integrates numerical analysis, matrix computation, signal processing, and graphics in an easy-to-use environment.
MB Research Scientific Software for Chemists: MB Research presents scientific software products for chemists and a scientific chat. The software can be applied to simulation of elctrophoresis methods and electrolyte solutions.
Myrias Computer Technologies, Inc.: Myrias' main software product is the Parallel Application Management System, which provides a virtual global shared memory parallel programming environment across multiple workstations, SMP nodes, MPP nodes, or combinations of these. PAMS is particularly well suited for parallelizing large commercial codes, or for scientists who prefer to be scientists rather than parallel computer specialists.
The Numerical Algorithms Group: NAG produces and distributes numerical, symbolic, statistical and visualisation software for the solution of problems in a wide range of applications in such areas as science, engineering, financial analysis and research. For users who write programs and build packages, NAG produces sub-program libraries in a wide range of computer languages (Ada, C, Fortran, Pascal, Turbo Pascal). For users who do not wish to program, NAG provides several powerful mathematical and statistical packages for interactive use. There is also NAGWare, a range of products including compilers and tools aimed at the professional program designer.
Numerical Recipes On-Line Store: "Numerical Recipes in Fortran 90: The Art of Parallel Scientific Computing", Volume 2 of Fortran Numerical Recipes. This new volume, intended for use with the existing book (now renamed Numerical Recipes in Fortran 77), reworks all the Numerical Recipes routines to use Fortran 90's concise parallel language constructions. Even on single processor machines, you get the benefit of a slick, modern version of Fortran, and new conciseness and clarity in the code. There are also three new chapters on Fortran 90 language features and parallel programming methods. Downloadable (purchased) Fortran code now includes all the Fortran 90 code from "Numerical Recipes in Fortran 90" -- as well as all the traditional Fortran 77 code.
Pacific-Sierra Research Corporation: Provider of compilers and tools for high-performance computers.
Parallel Integrated Research: produces and distributes parallel computing software for Windows NT and Windows 95. A package of parallel direct solvers (LAIPE) and a parallel programming language (Mtask) for scientific and engineering computing have been released. The parallel packages not only can run on uniprocessor computers but also may speed up on multiprocessors.
ParaSoft Corporation: ParaSoft Corporation was co-founded by Caltech graduate Dr. Adam Kolawa (Chairman & CEO) in July of 1987. The founders were members of the research team which developed the world's first parallel computer at the California Institute of Technology.
