Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Code

Abstract
The primary focus of the Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Group (HTFFG) at Oak Ridge National Lab is problem solving related to heat transfer and fluid flow, which typically requires utilization of state-of-the-art engineering analysis software or development of custom software. HTFFG has developed and maintains a general-purpose conduction heat transfer code (HEATING) and is developing a general-purpose computational fluid dynamics code (PHI3D). HTFFG has developed numerous special-purpose codes, including NORVEX (NASA Oak Ridge Void Experiment), centrifuge modeling codes, BEPLATE (electroplating simulation), a grain recrystallization simulator, and inverse heat transfer code, Quench Simulator (heat transfer/metallurigical phase change during quenching), and REHAP (refrigerant modeling for gaseous diffusion cell). The group is familiar with numerous public-domain codes, including TOPAZ (heat transfer), TEMPEST (fluids), SOLA-VOF (fluids), KIVA (combustion), RELAP5 (thermal/hydraulic), NIKE (stress), and DYNA (stress) and numerous commercial packages, including FLOW-3D (fluids), CFDS-FLOW3D (fluids), FLUENT (fluids), PATRAN (grid generation), P-THERMAL (thermal), ABAQUS (thermal/stress), PROCAST (casting/thermal), and EMAS (electro/magnetostatics).
