SGI MPI ships with xmpi, the trace visualization tool originally tool originally developed as part of LAM. xmpi can be used to start MPI programs and collect trace information. There is no mechanism to generate trace information or examine trace files without xmpi.

There is no debugger that understands MPI applications.
