PGI has added to its HPF compiler the option to target PARMACS message passing library. This feature will give the code developer all the power of a data parallel language with the potential for low-level tuning. The new products will be demonstrated at a joint PGI/PALLAS booth at the High- Performance Computing and Networking (HPCN) Europe 1994 conference and exhibition, April 18-20 in Munich. HPF is a standardized set of extensions to Fortran 90, aimed at enabling programmers to improve a program's performance on a parallel computer in a machine- independent, portable manner. HPF is the focus of the High Performance Fortran Forum (HPFF), an international coalition of industrial and academic groups led by Dr. Ken Kennedy (Director) of Rice University and Dr. Geoffrey Fox of Syracuse University. This forum has established a goal for HPF to provide a single parallel programming model for a user to develop his application for a wide variety of parallel computing platforms. PARMACS is the European industry standard message passing library which is supplied by PALLAS for nearly all parallel computers (distributed memory and shared memory systems) and workstation clusters. PARMACS is used by major European industrial porting activities, including the RAPS consortium and the majority of the recently launched Europort projects. On top of PARMACS, tools for performance analysis (TraceGen and ParaGraph+) are available for analyzing and tuning PARMACS codes. "PGI is very excited about combining the message passing expertise of PALLAS with the parallel compiler technology of PGI. I expect this HPF distribution agreement to be the first step in a very productive, close relationship with PALLAS," commented Vincent Schuster, president of PGI. PALLAS is Europe's leading independent software company specializing in High Performance Computing. PALLAS has successfully assisted many organizations in migrating from sequential to parallel computing. Customers of PALLAS come from all fields; hardware manufacturers, software vendors, end users. Each of these has benefited from PALLAS's unique experience in the development and tuning of parallel applications. The Portland Group, Inc. was founded in 1989 by a team of software developers with extensive experience in developing high performance compilers and development tools for the supercomputing marketplace. PGI has subsequently become a recognized leader in developing compilers and application development tools for the high performance computing. PGI is the leading supplier of high performance vectorizing and parallelizing C and FORTRAN compilers and development tools for Intel i860, SuperScalar SPARC and Fujitsu micro vector processor (5VP) based scalar and parallel systems. PGI is headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon, USA.
