Bulletin number: 313 Products affected: Z999 Description: Sun cartridge tape formats Component: Date: Tue Jun 19 13:30:29 BST 1990 ----- This is an attempt to clear up some confusion about Sun tape densities. We think there are three types of Sun cartridge tape drives QIC-11, QIC-11/24 and QIC-150. QIC-11 drives. Can read and write QIC-11. Thought to be extinct, unless of course you know better! Dual QIC-11 / QIC-24 drives. Can read and write QIC-11 and QIC-24. Found on Sun 3, Sun 3x and Sun 4 systems. To use QIC-11 refer to /dev/rst0. To use QIC-24 refer to /dev/rst8. When reading the system will detect format. QIC-150 drives. Can sometimes read very small amounts of QIC-11. Can read QIC-24 and QIC-150. Can write QIC-150. Only found on Sun 3x and Sun 4 systems. To use refer to /dev/rst0. When reading the system will detect format. Now comes the question of what format we should use for distribution. The current idea is to use QIC-11 for products aimed at Sun 3 only and QIC-24 for products aimed at Sun 3 and Sun 4 systems. Any comments on this from the field are encouraged.
