The following routines:
 
  so.write.string
  so.write.string.nl
  so.fwrite.string
  so.fwrite.string.nl
 
which are all found in hostio, have a maximum length on the string
they can write.  This length must be less than or equal to the hostio
constant sp.max.writebuffer.size.
 
This has been fixed for the new occam toolset where any length string
will be handled.
