End of file and error conditions are signalled in the stream generated by
an interface procedure such as    keystream.from.file  by negative numbers.
Such numbers will set error if received in a stream processed by one of the
procedures    read.echo.int  or    read.echo.int64  within the code of
which they will be passed as a parameter to the library function   \tt
is.in.range  which expects a byte size parameter. The problem does not arise
if the input procedures without echo are used, or the structure of input is
such that error or end of file can arise only when using echoing input
procedures other than the ones mentioned above.
