NPACI Standard FFT Library

Abstract

There are many different library packages for Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT's), including ESSL and PESSL for IBM computers, the Cray Standard FFT package, and FFTPACK from Netlib, as well as numerous "home-grown" implementations. Our goal is to define a standard library interface (procedure names, parameters, and functionality) that will allow NPACI users (at least those who use the more common functions) to port their programs easily among NPACI computers. The standard interface will be supported by wrappers that call machine-specific implementations. We will explore various alternatives (including the self-tuning fftw package developed by Frigo and Johnson at MIT, and an approach based on our own research) to provide the best-performing implementation on each platform.
