Active Data Repository

Name
Active Data Repository
Abstract
The Active Data Repository is a layered software suite designed to optimize access to, and preprocessing of, very large data sets on high end parallel machines. Examples of such data sets include output from scientific computing simulations, sensor data, and static and time-dependent data from high-power light microscopy. The Active Data Repository infrastructure will also be used to support persistent data structures managed by the CARTE library (and its predecessors) under development as part of the Adaptable, Scalable Tools/Environments thrust area. Our initial targets include the UT Austin Bay and Estuary simulation application, an application obtained from the Neuroscience thrust and the University of Maryland Earth Systems Science thrust application. Our collaboration with Wheeler's group will initially involve storing hydrodynamic bay and estuary simulation data in the Active Data Repository. The calculations use the repository's processing capabilities to carry out calculations corresponding to various environmental simulation scenarios. These calculations involve simulating reaction and convection of multiple chemical species. These convection and reaction calculations use the hydrodynamic data to predict how chemical species will be transported.
