IBM PIOFS
- Abstract
- The IBM AIX Parallel I/O File System (PIOFS) allows fast parallel access to large temporary data
files. Designed for the IBM RS/6000 SP, PIOFS is capable of scaling file input/output performance as
the SP scales in compute performance.
Implemented as an AIX Virtual File System, PIODS can coexist with other AIX files systems in both
storage and compute nodes. Users may employ specific PIOFS functions to exceed the AIX 2
gigabyte file limitation, to create checkpointed versions of a file, and to define specific distributions of
a data within a file. Through its use of multiple AIX-based server nodes, PIOFS eliminates the
bottleneck caused by serial file server access.
