MATLAB
- Abstract
- MATLAB, short for MATrix LABoratory, is a high-level
language for scientific computing and visualization.
It has a user-friendly environment and enables users
to integrate computation, visualization, and programming
using familiar mathematical notation. The basic data
element in MATLAB is an array that does not require
dimensioning. MATLAB allows algorithm developers to
solve many computational problems in a fraction of
the time it would take to write programs in C or FORTRAN.
MATLAB features a collection of special-purpose toolboxes
that extend the functionality of MATLAB to application
specific domains. Some toolboxes are the signal processing
toolbox, image processing toolbox, neural network toolbox,
wavelet toolbox, etc. Users can call existing C and/or
FORTRAN code from MATLAB through MEX files. MATLAB
can also be used as a computation engine and can be
invoked from C and/or FORTRAN code.
