                           CALL FOR PAPERS

9th HETEROGENEOUS COMPUTING WORKSHOP (HCW 2000)

            Cancun, Mexico - Monday, May 1, 2000
        In conjunction with IPDPS 2000 - May 1-May 5, 2000

                           Co-sponsored by
                      the IEEE Computer Society,
through the Technical Committee on Parallel Processing,
and the U.S. Office of Naval Research

       -------------------------------------------------------

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION:

The 9th Heterogeneous Computing Workshop (HCW 2000) will be held in
Cancun, Mexico on May 1, 2000. HCW 2000 is associated with the
International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (which is
the merged International Parallel Processing Symposium and the
Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing). IPDPS 2000 is
sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, through the Technical
Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP), and is held in cooperation
with the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committees on Computer
Architecture (TCCA) and Distributed Processing (TCDP), and the ACM
Special Interest Group on Computer Architecture (SIGARCH).

Heterogeneous computing systems range from diverse elements within a
single computer to coordinated, geographically distributed machines
with different architectures. A heterogeneous computing system
provides a variety of capabilities that can be orchestrated to execute
multiple tasks with varied computational requirements. Applications in
these environments achieve performance by exploiting the affinity of
different tasks to different computational platforms or paradigms,
while considering the overhead of inter-task communication and the
coordination of distinct data sources and administrative domains. The
topics of interest include, but are not limited to, task mapping and
scheduling, resource management, network computing, configuration
tools, high performance networking, programming paradigms, fault
tolerance, security, programming tools, Quality of Service (QoS)
metrics, compiler assistance, and application studies. The workshop
plans to publish the proceedings through the IEEE Computer Society
Press. The proceedings will also be available on the Web and on the
IPDPS CD-ROM.

See http://myrtle.cs.umanitoba.ca/hcw for the latest information
concerning the workshop and http://www.ipdps.org/ for the latest
information on IPDPS 2000.

SUBMITTING PAPERS:

Authors are invited to submit summaries of original unpublished
research in all areas of heterogeneous computing to the Program Chair.
All submissions will be reviewed by the Program Committee and outside
referees. Summaries should not exceed five (5) single-spaced pages of
text using 12 point size type on 8.5 x 11 inch pages. References,
figures, tables, etc. may be included in addition to the five pages of
text. The summary should include an abstract of approximately 100
words. The corresponding author is requested to include in a cover
letter: (1) complete postal address; (2) email address; (3) phone
number; (4) fax number; and (5) five to seven key phrases that
characterize the paper's topic. Submissions may be by hard copy or by
email. Electronic submissions are preferred and should be sent to
hcw2000@congo.usc.edu. Authors should submit the cover page in ASCII
form followed by a PostScript (level 2) file and make sure that it
will print on a PostScript printer that uses 8.5 x 11 inch (US letter
size) paper. For hard copy submissions, authors should submit seven
(7) hard copies of their paper along with the cover letter to the
following address:

                     HCW 2000
                     Attn: Henryk Chrostek

                     Los Angeles, CA 90089-2562, USA

Manuscripts must be received by October 8, 1999.
Receipt of submissions will be promptly acknowledged by email.
Notification of review decisions will be mailed by
December 17, 1999. Final versions of full camera-ready papers for the
proceedings will be due by January 26, 2000.
