The Summer Institute on Mobile Computing
            July 29 ~ August 4, 1999, Taipei, Taiwan

The summer institute on "Mobile Computing"
is to be held at the Institute of Information Science,
Academia Sinica in Taiwan this coming summer in late July.
The exact title of the summer institute is subject to change.

The following is the main theme (tentative) of the summer institute.
Advances in wireless networking technology have engendered a new
paradigm of computing, called mobile computing, in which users
carrying portable devices have access to a shared infrastructure
independent of their physical location. Key issues that need to be
investigated include communication in wireless networks, management of
mobility, information access in wireless environment, etc.
Theoretical issues regarding mobile computing will also be addressed.

We'll have FOUR or FIVE principal lecturers to cover topics
central to the main theme of the summer institute in the first week.
There will be other invited guest lecturers to do supplemental seminars
on their research in the related areas.
This will be an intensive course and open to graduate students and
researchers in Taiwan. Lecture notes will be distributed in class.

The principal lecturers and some selected participants, domestic or
abroad, will be invited to stay for another one to two weeks to do
joint research with researchers from local institutions.

Academia Sinica has housing facilities for visitors and it is much
cheaper and more convenient to stay there during the period.
It is highly recommended that all participants stay at the
activity center.

There are no fees for the course. Selected participants from abroad
will be provided support by the Institute of Information Science,
Academia Sinica to cover their local expenses. The application dealine
for financial support is May 10, 1999. For more details,
such as the topics, other administrative issues and local attractions
