                             Call for Articles

         Current Science: Special Section on Computational Science

                          A journal published by

      Current Science Association in collaboration with Indian Academy
                                of Sciences

  (WebPage: http://gangothri.serc.iisc.ernet.in/~sriram/CmplSci-splsec/)

     We solicit articles for a special section of the journal Current
     Science, on the topic of Computational Science. This special
     section is devoted to the application of high-performance
     computing to the solution of problems in science and engineering.
     Current Science has a wide readership of about 4500 researchers
     spanning several disciplines of science and engineering. We plan
     to provide wide publicity to the special issue in the world-wide
     computational science community. We also hope to make this
     special issue serve as the preferred first reading for a new
     professional or a graduate student in the area.

     We solicit articles that address issues in achieving practical
     computing solutions to real science and engineering problems.
     Topics of interest include but are not restricted to:

        * high-performance numerical methods
        * experiences with program development and optimization for
          specific computing platforms
        * software tools that enhance the computational capabilities
          of scientists
        * special-purpose computing platforms for specific
          applications
        * trends in compute-power demands of particular applications

     Articles should be written with the following broad categories in
     mind: (i) research articles (short or long), (ii) perspectives,
     (iii) tutorials, and (iv) opinion pieces. Typical research,
     perspective, and tutorial articles should be no longer than about
     5 printed pages (3000 words), though we will consider all
     submissions. Opinion pieces should be significantly shorter,
     typically around 1000 words.

     All articles will be reviewed by the guest editors and at least
     two external referees from a set of international referees.
     Acceptance will be based strictly on the reviews and on the
     willingness of the authors to recast the article to satisfy the
     reviewers. In addition to typical review criteria, articles will
     be especially evaluated for their accessibility to a broad
     audience. Research articles will be evaluated for the novelty of
     the reported research. Research articles from specific
     disciplines should be written with extra care to abstract out and
     focus on the inherent computational aspects of the problem,
     keeping domain-specific information to a bare minimum.
     Perspective articles should typically provide an expert analysis
     and/or future projections of computational science aspects:
     applications, computing demands, etc.. Tutorial articles will be
     evaluated for their effectiveness in aiding the novice
     computational scientist, for example (but not in all cases) a
     first-year graduate student in any discipline of science or
     engineering. Opinion articles can address any technical or
     non-technical aspect of computational science, including issues
     such as policy, education, employment, etc. Opinion articles will
     be reviewed for their basis in facts and for a balanced, tempered
     presentation of opinions. These articles should have a separate
     section on the facts that are being commented upon.

     Any article submitted to this special issue should not already be
     published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

     Important Dates:

        * Article Submission Deadline:                July  31, 1999.
        * Intimation of Selection:                    Sept. 30, 1999.
        * Final Paper due:                            Nov.  30, 1999.

     Submission Instructions: Available in the special section web page
     or via email to CmplSci-splsec@gangothri.serc.iisc.ernet.in
