                      CALL FOR PAPERS

Midwest Workshop on Parallel Processing (MWPP 1999)

August 11-13, 1999 at Kent State University

              http://min.ecn.purdue.edu/~mwpp/

Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee
on Parallel Processing (IEEE CS TCPP) -- sponsorship pending

In Cooperation With the ACM Special Interest Group on
Computer Architecture (ACM SIGARCH) -- sponsorship pending

With support from Kent State University

The first Midwest Workshop on Parallel Processing (MWPP
1999), will be held August 11-13, 1999 at the Kent State
University in Kent, OH. Unlike most conferences, MWPP 1999
centers on bringing together the best researchers in a
scholarly environment that emphasizes interaction between
attendees and is very friendly and accessible to people just
beginning in the field. Paper quality will be kept high by
peer and program committee review, but the schedule is
designed to maximize time for making personal contacts, and
the location is selected to minimize the effort and cost in
attending.

SUBMISSIONS OF REGULAR PAPERS OR DISCLOSURE ABSTRACTS ARE
DUE APRIL 18, 1999.

WHAT TOPICS ARE APPROPRIATE FOR MWPP 1999? The workshop
covers any aspect of the use of parallelism to speed-up an
algorithm or computation, provide fault tolerance, or
model/interact with real-time events. This includes broad
classes of research in languages/libraries, compilers, OS,
architectures, hardware implementations, algorithms, models
and analysis, and various applications. Use of distributed
or clustered systems for parallel processing (e.g., Linux
"Beowulfs") is also very appropriate, but MWPP is not about
the Internet, LANs, or wireless communication per se.

IS A MWPP 1999 PAPER A "JOURNAL QUALITY" PUBLICATION? The
proceedings will be published as both electronic and
hardcopy documents. If a MWPP submission is accepted as a
"regular" paper, then it becomes an archival full-length
publication with implied quality comparable to that of a
journal article. Work which is less mature may be accepted
as a "disclosure," meaning that it is suitable for
presentation and discussion at the workshop, but only a 1-2
page abstract will appear in the proceedings. Authors
specify the type of publication for which their submission
should be considered: regular, disclosure, or either.
