                 WOPA'99: CALL FOR CONTRIBUTED PRESENTATIONS

                       Atlanta, Georgia, MAY 5-6, 1999
in conjunction with the ACM Federated Computing Research Conference

The goal of the Workshop on Parallel Algorithms (WOPA) is to promote
exchange and dissemination of information among those working in this
field, as well as exposure to a broader range of relevant technologies
as they keep changing. The workshop provides a venue for presenting
recent research, significant contributions and new research
directions.

The program will include a contributed (and invited) talks. To this
end, WOPA solicits the submission of proposals for contributed
research talks and technical expositions in all areas of parallel
algorithms, and addressing all levels of parallelism, from
instruction-level parallelism to supercomputers and all kinds of
multi-processors. WOPA is an informal meeting and does not publish
proceedings. Submissions that overlap to some extent papers presented
or submitted elsewhere are allowed. However: (1) Such an overlap and
its extent must be indicated in the submission, and (2) a submission
which is mainly a replication of a paper presented or submitted
elsewhere is not acceptable.

Examples of submissions that are encouraged include: (1) a
presentation that summarizes a thesis, (2) a presentation describing
themes, paradigms, principles, methods, or other perspectives that
span several individual papers, and, perhaps, offer some breadth. A
submission should include: (1) An abstract of 2--3 pages presenting an
overview the proposed talk, and (2) appropriate informative appendices
to enable technical screening. The abstract should contain a succinct
description of the problems addressed, the main results obtained, and
the significance of the work in the field of parallel algorithms. The
appendices should provide sufficient information to allow the
evaluation of the validity and quality of the proposed contributed
presentation. In case of multiple authors, a contact author should be
indicated.

Abstracts must be submitted electronically by Friday, November 20,
1998 (5pm EST). Instructions are available at
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~guyb/wopa99/cfp.html. Authors will be notified
of acceptance or rejection by Friday, January 8, 1999.

WOPA'99 is part of the Third Federated Computing Research Conference
(FCRC). The constituent meetings of FCRC partially overlap in time to
facilitate the interaction of the researchers from different fields of
computer science and engineering and to expose them to a broad range
of research. WOPA'99 is sponsored by the University of Maryland
Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS).
