			   CALL FOR PAPERS

8th HETEROGENEOUS COMPUTING WORKSHOP (HCW '99)

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Monday, April 12, 1999
	In conjunction with IPPS/SPDP 1999 - April 12-16, 1999

			   Co-sponsored by
the U.S. Office of Naval Research and
		      the IEEE Computer Society,
through the Technical Committee on Parallel Processing

       -------------------------------------------------------

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION:

The 8th Heterogeneous Computing Workshop (HCW '99) will be held in San Juan,
Puerto Rico on April 12, 1999. HCW '99 is associated with the Second Merged
Symposium of the 13th International Parallel Processing Symposium and the
10th Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing (IPPS/SPDP 1999).
IPPS/SPDP 1999 is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, through the
Technical Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP) and is held in cooperation
with the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Computer Architecture
(TCCA) and Technical Committee on Distributed Processing (TCDP) and the ACM
Special Interest Group on Computer Architecture (SIGARCH).

Heterogeneous computing systems range from diverse elements within a single
computer to coordinated, geographically distributed machines with different
architectures. A heterogeneous computing system provides a variety of
capabilities that can be orchestrated to execute multiple tasks with varied
computational requirements. Applications in these environments achieve
performance by exploiting the affinity of different tasks to different
computational platforms or paradigms, while considering the overhead of
inter-task communication and the coordination of distinct data sources
and/or administrative domains. The topics of interest include, but are not
limited to, task profiling, network profiling, configuration tools,
scheduling tools, analytic benchmarking, programming paradigms, problem
mapping, processor assignment and scheduling, fault tolerance, programming
tools, Quality of Service (QoS) metrics, processor selection criteria,
compiler assistance, and application studies. The workshop plans to publish
the proceedings through the IEEE Computer Society Press. The proceedings
will also be available on the Web and on the IPPS/SPDP CD-ROM.

See http://garage.ecn.purdue.edu/~maheswar/hcw for the latest information
concerning the workshop and http://www.ippsxx.org/ for the latest
information on IPPS/SPDP 1999.

SUBMITTING PAPERS:

Authors are invited to submit summaries of original unpublished research in
all areas of heterogeneous computing to the Program Chair. All submissions
will be reviewed by the Program Committee and outside referees. Summaries
should not exceed five (5) single-spaced pages of text using 12 point size
type on 8.5 x 11 inch pages. References, figures, tables, etc. may be
included in addition to the five pages of text. The summary should include
an abstract of approximately 100 words. Submissions may be by hard copy or
email. Authors should submit seven (7) hard copies of their paper to the
Program Chair at the address given on this announcement. Electronic
submissions should be sent to hcw99@ganges.usc.edu. Authors should submit a
PostScript (level 2) file and make sure that it will print on a PostScript
printer that uses 8.5 x 11 inch (US letter size) paper. Manuscripts must be
received by October 5, 1998. The corresponding author is requested to
include in the cover letter: (1) complete postal address; (2) email address;
(3) phone number; (4) fax number; and (5) five to seven key phrases that
characterize the paper's topic. Receipt of submissions will be promptly
acknowledged by email. Notification of review decisions will be mailed by
December 11, 1998. Final versions of full camera-ready papers for the
proceedings will be due by January 20, 1999.
