Sychron Ltd  is  a  new  company  which  will  produce  scalable, high
performance systems software and  software tools for the cluster-based
servers which will increasingly power internet computing.  The systems
software and tools will  be  based  on,  but not limited to,  the  BSP
model of parallel computation, see e.g.

The initial Sychron Development Team will be based in Oxford, England,
and will be led by Prof Bill McColl, Prof Les Valiant and Dr Jon Hill.
The Development Team is looking to hire FIVE full-time technical staff
from October/November 1998. A further five technical appointments will
be made over the next six to twelve months.

The five posts currently on offer are described below.  Applicants for
all posts  should  have a degree or  equivalent.   The people  we  are
looking to attract are those who have the enthusiasm, self-confidence,
and most importantly the technical skills, to develop complex software
systems under tight time  constraints.    They should  be able to work
independently, or  as part of a  small  team, as required.  Candidates
with  practical experience in one or  more of the following areas will
be of particular interest:

       Operating  Systems Development
       Low-Latency Communication Protocols
       Network Programming
       Compiler Implementation


The working environment  within  the  Development Team  will offer the
informality   and   flexibility  normally  found  in  universities and
research centres.  Initial salaries  for  all posts  will be based  on
qualifications  and practical experience.   Salary increases and other
benefits will be based on ability and achievements.

Jobs 1 and 2.
SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER.
Duties:   Kernel-level systems software development for scalable
          cluster architectures.
Requires: Practical experience in operating systems development and
          kernel-level programming.

Job 3.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER.
Duties:   Development of operating system scheduling software for
          scalable cluster architectures.
Requires: Practical experience in C/Unix software development and a
          knowledge of software for scalable parallel systems.

Job 4.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER.
Duties:   Development of programming environments (high-level systems
          software and software tools) for scalable cluster
          architectures.
Requires: Practical experience in developing C, Java software.

Job 5.
SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR.
Duties:   Maintenance and support of a large network of PCs, mainly
          running Linux, but some running NT.
Requires: Practical experience in C, Unix and networking.
