(1-800-689-0736) Date: 24 Jun 1998 18:05:37 GMT Message-ID: <6mrf5h$qd9$1@encore.ece.cmu.edu> Greetings! My book "Flow-Based Programming: A New Approach to Application Development" came out in 1994. Since then, approximately 600 copies have been sold out of a run of 1000. It has now been declared out of print by the group (ITCP) that took over the original publisher, van Nostrand Reinhold. It seems that ITCP is itself being closed down, and the people charged with this task wish to free up space in the company warehouse in Kentucky, as soon as possible. I have ordered 100 copies, so that I can act as a supplier if and when requests come in for my book, and they are letting me have them for approximately $3.00 each. If you or your organizations want copies, I have their agreement that they can be obtained for a similar price. The successors to ITCP are willing to send out copies, so long as stocks last. This seems preferable to having the remaining books turned into landfill! Since the books would otherwise be destroyed, naturally I do not expect to make any money on any copies you order. However, any orders should come in to me no later than the middle of next week (say the 24th of June, 1998). Could you therefore let me know if you or your organizations would be interested in obtaining some copies of Flow-Based Programming, and I will pass on your requests to the people disposing of the inventory. It seems to me that this book could be used as reference material, or as the basis for a course. This is a technology whose popularity seems to be growing steadily. I am compiling a growing list of products which seem to embody the same principles, some of which reference my work, and others which were apparently developed independently. John Cowan (who I am copying in this note) has implemented many of the concepts of FBP in Java in a product which he plans to make available over the net, so my book could be considered a text-book for this product. If you or your organization cannot make use of a few copies, perhaps you know of one which can. If so, could you please pass this note on to them? I look forward to hearing from you, Best regards, Paul M. -- J.
