2. Ph.D. Student positions in:

a) VLSI Architecture

(Ref.No. CCA 6/98)

The Centre for Computer Systems Architecture (CCA) at Halmstad
University, Sweden, seeks a Ph.D. student for research on massively
parallel VLSI architectures for applications like future mobile phone
systems, multimedia systems, and multi-channel radar signal
processing, concentrating on the issues: multimedia ICs,
synchronization, power dissipation and using ultra-short gate length
MOS devices in VLSI processor arrays.

The research involves: 1) Simulations and physical VLSI implementation
of (semi-)synchronous techniques to synchronize data transfers in
processor arrays; 2) Low power circuit techniques for processor
arrays; and 3) Simulations of using ultra-short CMOS devices in
processor arrays.

The research is part of the REMAP (Modular, massively parallel
computer architectures for embedded real-time applications) and PARAD
(Parallel architectures for signal processing applications) research
projects. More information about the research and about the open
position is found on www.hh.se/dep/cca/research/

The applicant should have a basic knowledge in electrical engineering
and VLSI design. A thorough interest in VLSI circuits is required. A
Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field is required.

Interested candidates should send application with * Curriculum Vitae
and * A letter of recommendation to Registrator, Halmstad University,
Box 823, S-301 18 HALMSTAD, Sweden to arrive not later than April 6th,
1998.For inquiries, contact Dr.Lars Bengtsson.
