Applications are invited for two positions as research associates on an
EPSRC funded project on parallel databases. The project aims to develop
a parallel implementation of an object-oriented database server using
low-cost parallel hardware.

The positions are tenable for 36 months from appointment, which is
likely
to be on or before 1st August 1998 at a salary of up to UKP18,494,
depending 
on experience and qualifications.  One appointee will be based at
Newcastle, 
and will concentrate on developing a parallel object server. The other 
appointee will be based at Manchester and will concentrate on parallel 
query processing.  Applicants should have at least a good honours degree 
in computer science or a related discipline, and preferably research or 
industrial experience in software development projects. More details are
