	       Postdoctoral Research Associate Position

COMPILER-DRIVEN PERFORMANCE PREDICTION FOR DATA-PARALLEL PROGRAMS

Rice Parallel Compiler and Tools Group
		     Department of Computer Science
		   	  Rice University
		  http://www.cs.rice.edu/~dsystem

We invite applications for a post-doctoral research associate position in
the D System project on compilers and tools for data-parallel programming.
We are starting work on POEMS, a new DARPA-funded effort on environments for
end-to-end performance evaluation of large-scale parallel applications
(http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/poems/). This project is in collaboration
with researchers at several other institutions. The compiler group at Rice
will particularly be focusing on compiler-based techniques for constructing
performance models of High Performance Fortran (HPF) programs. We will
explore models at different levels of abstraction, from a detailed
specification language to abstract analytical models.

This position will require research at the interface between parallelizing
compilers and performance modeling of parallel programs and systems.
The ideal candidate would possess proven research expertise in one of these
areas, and some exposure to and interest in the other.

This is an opportunity to participate in challenging research on a timely
problem, with the potential to have significant impact on current practice.
The Rice parallel compiler group has a long and distinguished history of
research on compilers and programming environments, with significant
external impact on the practice of high performance computing.
The group has a strong track record of technology transfer to industry.

This position is available immediately. The appointment will be for a
period of two years, extendable to three years subject to funding
availability and mutual interest. The annual salary range is
US$50,000-$54,000. The position provides regular Rice University benefits
except specific retirement benefits. Interested persons should send a
resume, including the names of three persons who can provide letters of
reference, to the following address (preferably by e-mail as ASCII or
postscript):
