Topics: communication networks -- protocols and architectures; competitive analysis of distributed algorithms; concurrency control and synchronization; data management, replication, and consistency; design and analysis of distributed systems; distributed applications, paradigms and services; distributed databases; distributed information retrieval; distributed operating systems; fault-tolerance and self-stabilization; knowledge in distributed systems; mobile computing; multiprocessor algorithms and architectures; performance and scalability issues; privacy and security in distributed systems; semantics, specification and verification; synchrony, asynchrony, partial synchrony and real-time and others. Deadlines: Papers: 26th April 1997; Acceptance: 17th June 1997; Camera-ready papers: 10th July 1997. See also /parallel/events/ Added: http://www.psc.edu/training/MPP_May_97/welcome.html "Supercomputing Techniques: Parallel Processing on Cray MPP Systems" by Stephanie Dobler Details of workshop being held from 19th-22nd May, 1997 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Organised by Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce participants to parallel processing on the CRAY T3D/T3E and explore more advanced topics, including performance monitoring and optimization techniques. The first two days of this workshop have been designed to introduce participants to PSC's supercomputing environment, compiling, debugging, job submission, and parallel programming concepts. The third and fourth days are designed to cover more advanced topics, including advanced parallel programming techniques, how to monitor code performance and optimization strategies. There will also be presentations on scientific applications which have been parallelized. The workshops incorporate lectures and extensive hands-on lab sessions. In addition to the exercises, lab time will also be available for participants to optimize their own code with the help and supervision of our instructors. Participants are encouraged to bring their code, but not required. A working knowledge of FORTRAN or C and UNIX are required but NOT Parallel computing experience.
