Thus, entrepreneurs seeking to = participate in the coming move to desktop multiprocessing are looking = to DEC's Alpha 21164 CPU as an attractive alternative. PPC's May speaker is Y. J. Kim, a senior manager at Samsung = Semiconductor. He co-authored an excellent article in the April 1997 = OEM Magazine (page 39) which clearly indicated the Alpha 21164's = technical superiority over Intel's offering in raw clock speed (500 = MHz), MPEG-1 encoding used in videoconferencing, high performance = floating point operations needed for 3D graphics, etc. And Samsung = 's recently acquired license to manufacture the Alpha is expected to = dramatically lower the price of Alpha systems. Y.J.'s description of Alpha's architecture will emphasize its = multi-processing capabilities. PPC will want to know if Samsung = plans to manufacture systems and supporting chips and what important = collaborative opportunities may be available.
