programming models available on the CM, including
CMMD, Active Messages, PVM, CMF and C* on the node,

                  1) Workshop: System Administration Issues

A facilitated but open forum for discussion of
issues concerning the operation and administration
of a CM, including access control and accounting,
configuration of CMOST, SDA, HiPPI, and DJM.
                         Participants will include:

                         Dennis O'Neill, Schlumberger Geco-Prakla

                  2) Information Processing

The Business Supercomputing Group at Thinking
Machines has big plans for the introduction of
MPP technology into a market traditionally dominated
by mainframe technology. Thinking Machines and
some of their forward looking customers will
present information on new products and applications
                         for the CM.

3:00pm - 3:30pm Break

3:30pm - 5:00pm Parallel Sessions:

                  1) Workshop: Performance: Metrics and Reporting

A facilitated but open forum for discussion of
the problems with measuring and reporting on
performance. As simple gigaflop numbers become
                         increasingly suspect, establishing techniques
                         and guidelines for reporting meaningful
performance statistics is an issue to which the
                         MPP community need address itself.
                         Participants will include:

                         Paul Anderson, Naval Research Laboratory
Olaf Lubeck, Los Alamos National Laboratory
                         (and two more TBD)

                  2) Workshop: Integrating the CM

A facilitated but open forum for discussion of
the fine art of exploiting the capabilities
of a CM within a heterogeneous computing
environment including everything from PCs to
                         supercomputers. Networking, distributed computing,
visualization, mass storage, and resource allocation
are all likely topics. Participants will include:

                         Melinda Shearer,
                             Mobil Research and Development Corporation
                         Eric Townsend,
                             National Aeronautics and Space Administration
                         Hank Dardy, Naval Research Laboratory
                         Gerd Quecke,
German National Center for Computer Science (GMD)

Evening: Birds of a Feather sessions

There's just not enough time for sessions on
everything of interest in this diverse community.
So space will be provided for impromptu gatherings
organized by conference participants on topics of
                         mutual interest.

Friday February 18, 1994

8:00am - 10:00am Registration

8:30am - 10:00am Workshop: Performance: How to get there

A facilitated but open forum for discussion of
the craft of squeezing the utmost in performance
out of CM codes, be it CMF, C*, CDPEAC,etc.
                         Participants will include:

                         Jacek Myczkowski, Thinking Machines
Rajan Gupta, Los Alamos National Laboratory
                         Bill Carlson, Supercomputing Research Center
                         (and another TBD)

10:00am - 10:15am Break

10:15am - 11:45am Work in Progress Session

This session will include a number of short
presentations on interesting work in progress
covering the entire spectrum of CM-related
activities. If you are interested in making a
presentation, please bring it to our attention
(before the end of January). We will choose the
most interesting proposals for brief (5-10min)
                         presentations.
